Regional Councillor Vegh called the meeting to order at 4:01 p.m. and made the following remarks:

“We acknowledge the land we are meeting on today is the traditional territory of many First Nations, including the Chippewas of Georgina Island and the Mississaugas of the Credit. These lands are now home to many diverse Indigenous peoples.

We also acknowledge that York Region falls under Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Williams Treaties with several Mississauga and Chippewas First Nations.”

Committee received the first half of the presentation related to the exterior design of the New Transitional Housing, presented by Melissa McEnroe, Manager, Affordable Housing Development, Nicole Reiss, Housing Development Planner and Graham Hendren, Housing Development Planner, Housing Services, Community and Healthy Services.

Committee received the communication from Barry Martin, Citizen Member, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee dated April 22, 2021.

Due to time constraints, the update on accessibility activities from Lois Davies, Manager, Social Policy and Accessibility, Strategies and Partnerships Branch, Community and Health Services will be forwarded by email.

Due to time constraints, the second half of today's presentation could not be presented.  The Committee Chair requested staff consider an additional meeting in May for this purpose.

Joseph Silva, Director, Strategies and Partnerships announced that Khairoon Abbas, Program Manager, has been seconded for one year to provide leadership in advancing the Region’s Anti-Black Racism work and other Inclusion activities.  

Kim Bacani-Angus is backfilling Khairoon’s position as Program Manager, Inclusion and Accessibility, with a focus on the accessibility program and lead for the work of this Committee. 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting adjourned at 6:02 p.m.
