Regional Councillor Vegh called the meeting to order at 4 p.m. and made the following remarks:

“We acknowledge the land we are meeting on today is the traditional territory of many First Nations, including the Chippewas of Georgina Island and the Mississaugas of the Credit. These lands are now home to many diverse Indigenous peoples.

We also acknowledge that York Region falls under Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Williams Treaties with several Mississauga and Chippewas First Nations.”

Laurie Fortnum declared an interest in Item C.1 - Community Investment Fund Program Review, as she is employed by the Canadian Mental Health Association.  Ms. Fortnum did not participate in the discussion of this item and did not vote on the matter.

Committee received the presentation by Matteo Pirri, Senior Policy Analyst, Human Services Strategies and Partnerships, Strategies and Partnerships Branch, Community and Health Services.

Committee received the presentation by Heather Tillock, Manager, Community Partnerships and Support Services, Housing Services Branch, Community and Health Services.

 

Committee recessed at 4:55 p.m. and reconvened at 5:07 p.m.

Committee received the memorandum from Dino Basso, Commissioner of Corporate Services dated June 15, 2021.

Committee received an update from Lois Davies, Manager, Social Policy and Accessibility, Strategies and Partnerships Branch, Community and Health Services on the following:

National AccessAbility Week Celebrations

June 1st - Lunch and Learn held for York Region staff, with a presentation by Michael Jacques and his father Marcel Jacques

June 2nd - Forum event held with representatives from local municipalities and several members of this committee

Vito Spatafora provided an overview of the Forum Event on Red Shirt Day.


2021 Accessibility Status Report

AODA legislation requires York Region to post a status report annually outlining the accessibility activities accomplished in the past year.  An update will be provided at the September YRAAC meeting.


2021 Accessibility Compliance Report

York Region's Accessibility Report is due to the province by December 31, 2021, which will include information on the Region's web compliance status. The committee will receive an update at the September YRAAC meeting.


Proposed Health and Education Standards

Ms. Davies noted two proposed AODA standards - Health and Education, advising that staff are reviewing both standards to identify if the requirements will apply to any of the programs or services York Region offers. 

The next meeting of this committee is scheduled on September 22, 2021 and will once again be held virtually.
