Regional Councillor Hamilton called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. and made the following remarks:

“I would like to begin today’s meeting by acknowledging that York Region extends over lands originally used and occupied by Indigenous Peoples, and on behalf of York Region, I would like to thank First Nations and the Métis for sharing this land.

I would also like to acknowledge the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation as our closest First Nation community.”

  • Committee received and referred to staff the communication from Tara Lajevardi, Deputy Clerk, Town of East Gwillimbury dated June 4, 2019.

Due to time restrictions, staff will forward to committee members by email the update on accessibility activities from Valentyna Navolskyy, Senior Policy Analyst, Accessibility, Strategies and Partnerships Branch, Community and Health Services.

  • The Committee recommended that the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee host a meeting, inviting the local Accessibility Advisory Committees, to discuss accessibility standards and consistent universal designs.

The next meeting of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee is scheduled on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 4 p.m.

Committee adjourned at 6:02 p.m.
