Rebecca Shields, Co-Chair called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m.

Rebecca Shields provided an overview of procedures for this meeting and made the following remarks:

“We acknowledge the land we are meeting on today is the traditional territory of many First Nations, including the Chippewas of Georgina Island and the Mississaugas of the Credit.

These lands are now home to many diverse Indigenous peoples.

We also acknowledge that York Region falls under Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Williams Treaties with several Mississauga and Chippewas First Nations.”

Katherine Chislett, Commissioner of Community and Health Services provided updates on actions taken by York Region in the following areas:

  1. Community Investment Fund Review
  2. Senior Services
  3. COVID Update
  4. Social Assistance Services and Supports
  5. Homelessness Prevention Program
  6. Housing Stability Program
  7. Social Services Relief Fund
  8. Community and Well-Being Plan
  9. Afghan Evacuees

The Board received the presentation by Dr. Richard Gould, Associate Medical Officer of Health, York Region Public Health.

Dr. Gould addressed the following topics regarding COVID-19 and received feedback from the Board:

  1. Current Situation: Fourth Wave
  2. Community Vaccination Education Successes
  3. Vaccination Clinics
  4. Public Health Measures
  5. Vaccination Updates and Policies

The Board received the presentation by Lisa Alfieri-Sladen, Manager, Human Services Strategy and Partnerships, York Region.

Ms. Alfieri-Sladen presented a timeline overview of milestones from Conception to Community Action. The Board participated in an interactive discussion identifying HSPB member organization contributions that may be brought to Community Safety and Well-Being Planning or to the community including:

  1. Data, research and knowledge mobilization
  2. In-kind support, resources
  3. Connection to resident groups
  4. Participation at key system tables
  5. Champion Community Safety and Well-Being publicly
  6. Resident engagement, event space (when safe to do so)
  7. Advocacy 
  8. Skill development
  9. Engagement with faith communities

The Board received the presentation by Kevin Pal, General Manager, Social Services, York Region titled Provincial Employment Services Transformation.

The Board received the presentation by Daryl Chong, President and Chief Executive Officer, Greater Toronto Apartment Association, and directed staff to circulate the presentation to the Commissioner of Finance and the Chief Planner.  The Board requested that this topic be brought back to a future Human Services Planning Board agenda.

The Board received the presentation by Noor Din, Chief Executive Officer, Human Endeavour.

Regional Councillor Heath acknowledged Tracy Macgregor's departure from the Board, congratulating her on her move to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.

A working group of the Human Services Planning Board is scheduled on December 3, 2021 at 9 a.m.
